Tournament Rules
All decisions made by the 3-on-3 Technical Committee are final.
> GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. 3-on-3 Basketball is a half court game played by two teams of three players each.
2. Waiver forms are required for STUDENTS. Strictly NO SIGNED WAIVER FORM, NO PLAY.
3. All players are only allowed to join one (1) team.
4. Each team shall designate an individual to function as the Team Captain for each game.
5. All competitors must wear a uniform jersey. Each team’s uniform (light and dark colored) must be numbered and is required to be the same color as all the other members. Players who do not comply with this will not be allowed to play.
6. A team will have a maximum of 3 players and a minimum of 2 players on the court during play. A team will forfeit the game if there will be no 2 players on the court. A team must have 3 players on the court to start a game or a forfeit will be called. Changes in the line-up cannot be made once the games have officially started.
7. A five-minute grace period for a team’s first scheduled game of the tournament will be allowed. All other games will start at the scheduled time. A short warm-up time will be allowed if time permits, however, teams may be required to start play as soon as the previous game has been completed.
8. The game will begin with a jump ball at the free throw line. The team winning possession of the ball must clear it behind the clearance line (3 pt. line). Possession alternates between the team.
9. Court officials will officiate and ensure that the games are played fairly and without excessive aggressiveness. They will interpret rules and settle all disputes. Officials will have the final say. Verbal abuse and/or physical contact with a court official will not be tolerated. All court officials are trained and experienced basketball officials.
10. Any serious violation of conduct, such as fighting or violence towards players or officials will result in player(s) immediate ejection from that game and his/her automatic suspension from his/her team’s next scheduled game. The court monitor will immediately notify the Ateneo sports committee, who shall investigate each incident to determine if additional discipline will be imposed.
11. An offending team will forfeit and contest involving serious or flagrant unsportsman-like conduct, use of an ineligible player or player using an alias or assumed name.
12. The LSPE Program and the WBC cannot assume sole responsibility for the eligibility of players. They will assist the team managers and individuals with their questions of eligibility and interpretation of rules. Inquiring about illegibility questions in advance of contests precludes delays and potential protest(s).
13. Wearing any piece of jewelry is not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, necklaces, earrings, newly pierced earrings, facial piercing, rings, bracelets, and watches. Individuals will not be allowed to tape over any jewelry item. If you cannot remove the item then you CANNOT play.
> CHANGING ENDS (CLEARING) & IN-BOUNDING
14. The ball must be “cleared” (taken beyond the 3-point line) each time possession changes and before a shot may be taken. A ball that is merely touched or deflected by the defense does not have to be cleared.
15. Goals made without properly clearing the ball will not count. Possession will be awarded to the opposing team.
16. Clearing the ball requires that the entire player with the ball go beyond the 3-point line. The ball must also clear the line.
17. There will be no in-bounding from the baseline. The ball may only be in-bounded at the following points:
Center court or line – After all goals; after any violation by the offense; after the ball goes out of bounds and is awarded to the defense.
Nearest point (sideline) -- After a ball goes out of bounds and is awarded to the offense; non-shooting defensive fouls.
18. Alternating possession (possession arrow) will apply to all jump ball or “held ball” situations.
19. The three-second lane rule will be used.
> CLOCK, TIME-OUTS & SUBSTITUTIONS
20. There will be two halves in a game. Eight (8) minutes per half, running time. The clock will not be stopped during the eliminations, and semifinals (including dead-ball situations).
21. In the finals round, there will be individual game clocks for every game. Eight (8) minutes per half, playing time.
22. 2 minutes will be allotted for all overtime periods (stop time).
23. Only 1 twenty-second timeout per half per team will be allowed. No time-outs will be carried over to the second half.
24. Player substitutions during the game are unlimited, but can only be made during dead-ball situations: made baskets, foul, or any violation.
25. Clock will not be stopped during substitutions during the eliminations and semifinals.
> SECURITY AND SAFETY.
26. The PE Department and the WBC will not be held liable for any theft, losses and damages to personal belongings during the event.
> SCORING.
27. Baskets made above the 3 pt. line will count for 2 points, and any shot made below the 3 pt. line will count for 1 point. Free throws will count as 1 point each.
> FOULS
28. All common, personal, and technical fouls shall count as a team total.
29. Each player is allowed up to 5 personal fouls (5th foul removes a player from the game). Free throws will be awarded with the 5th team foul of each half.
30. Flagrant fouls or continuous misconduct may result in team forfeiture and team dismissal from the tournament. All flagrant fouls are called by the referee or court monitor only. A flagrant foul may be a personal or technical foul of a violent or savage nature, or a technical non-contact foul which displays unacceptable conduct. It may or may not be intentional. If personal, it involves violent contact such as striking, kneeing, etc. If technical, it involves dead ball contact or non-contact at any time which is extremely or persistent, vulgar, or abusive conduct.
